LOVE-ISM from Paul Sixta on Vimeo.

Choreographer Mor Shani is working on “Love-ism”. Love-ism is a long term study inspired by the book “Art of Loving” by Erich Fromm. In this study Shani wishes to challenge the perception and liquidity of the agreed upon, the sublime and the condemned. He asks: “when do supreme ideas about love like care, mutuality and dependency stop being sacred and become sinful? And what is it that distinguishes one kind of love from another?”

Video artist, Paul Sixta expands the conceptual grounds of Love-ism in close collaboration with Shani. He challenges the discussion by making the process of creation transparent, and is creating a film about the “Politics of Intimacy”, researching the human experience of meeting significant others in and out of the studio. The stage product and the film will be presented as one piece.

A young man leaves the house one day, for a rendezvous

With other friends, to sample a brew, or two

He returns and inserts a CD in his system

The music plays, but without its usual equilibrium

Not for the first time, it must be told

Because it’s that kind of household

Where the next man considers himself wiser

Someone’s adjusted the graphic equaliser

At this stage, a decision is needed

To seek out the one who did the deed

And get hostilities underway

Or just forget, and shrug it away …

-

‘KEEP OUT OF MY ROOM!

AND DON’T TOUCH MY STEREO

IF YOU EVER DO THAT AGAIN …

I’LL KICK YOUR ASS! YOU’LL BE FLYING

LIKE LOUIS BLERIOT …..

The Japanese Sandman from Frameline on Vimeo.

Both wry travelogue and heartbreaking tale of love lost, The Japanese Sandman adapts a letter William S. Burroughs wrote to Allen Ginsberg in 1953. Told in Burroughs’ caustically funny voice, cocaine snorting in Panama and post-prom handjobs in 1931 St. Louis dissolve into a meditation on memory and loss.Actor/performance artist John Fleck leads a stand-out cast through Burroughs’ recounting of scoring opiates and boys in Panama and, in the letter’s P.S., a love affair with farm boy Billy Brandshinkel in the Ozark’s of his youth. Imperial Teen’s Roddy Bottum provides the lively and compelling score.

The original music video to this song was in my opinion one of the most iconic of its time. MTV played it around 40 times per day, and it was just so raw and gritty, and nothing like the polished stuff we’re force-fed today. RIP MCA.

"…Tarkovsky gave me one of the best and most unforgettable experiences in my life and in cinema. Late in the day, in 1971, I was watching a film with Kjell Grede (a Swedish filmmaker) in a screening room from SF. Afterwards we took a look at the screening booth where a number of film cases were lying. ‘What’s that?’ I asked the projectionist. ‘Some fucking Russian film.’ And then I saw Tarkovsky’s name and told Grede: ‘Listen, I read something about this picture. We have to watch it and see what it’s all about.’ We then bribed the projectionist so that he would show it to us … And it was Andrei Rublev. And so, at about 2:30 a.m., we both came out of the screening room with gaunt eyes, wobbly, completely moved, enthusiastic, and shaken. I will never forget it. What was remarkable is that there were no Swedish subtitles! We didn’t understand one word of dialogue, but we were nonetheless overwhelmed. Tarkovsky made another film that I like a lot, The Mirror.” — Ingmar Bergman, 2002
